Join World Space Week 2019!

AYVF as the founding* World Space Week National Coordinator for Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates invites all space fans to celebrate WSW's 20th anniversary in 2019! 

Less than two months to go WSW and AYVF invite broad participation from residents of all nationalities and ages, across government, academia, and the private sector in Bahrain and UAE to join the largest space festival on Earth. in 2019 we honor the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon landing as well as celebrate WSW's 20th year with engaging events that celebrate the Moon!

World Space Week (WSW), October 4 to 10 annually, was declared in 1999 by the United Nations General Assembly with the goal to celebrate the contribution of space science and technology for the good of humankind. Its dates commemorate two key events: the launch of Sputnik 1- the first artificial Earth satellite on October 4, 1957 – opening space for exploration, and the entry into force of the Outer Space Treaty on October 10, 1967.

Consisting of synchronized outreach and education activities by many - and any! organizations, the United Nations declared World Space Week reaches a mass audience each October 4-10 through attendance and media coverage. The benefits include:

• Building the workforce of tomorrow by inspiring students
• Visibly demonstrating public support for space programs
• Educating the public and government leaders about the benefits of space activities
• Promoting institutions which are involved in space
• Fostering international cooperation in space outreach and education.

World Space Week events are organized by entities as diverse as space agencies, schools, aerospace companies, planetaria, museums, astronomy clubs, with activities as varied as movie projections, space lectures, space exhibitions, sidewalk astronomy, drawing competitions, space debates and many more activities celebrating space. Since 2007, when detailed reporting began, World Space Week has been observed on a massive scale:

Participation by 94 nations
• Direct attendance on average of over 15,000 people per nation during the week
• Media coverage reaching nearly 300 million! global citizens

Participating institutions are featured in National and Global Reports for the World Space Week.

Founded in 2007, AYVF is a UAE born NGO dedicated to imagining and delivering initiatives that nurture the innovative spirits and critical thinking skills of youth across the Arab world. AYVF is best known for its historic educational partnership with NASA and its United Nations youth diplomacy initiatives. Since launching its S.T.E.A.M. (Science/Tech/Engineering/Astronomy/Math), Literacy, and Art programs across 11 naitons AYVF has served and inspired over 5 million MENA youth between 6 and 26 years old across 103 nationalities.

*Successfully handing-off coordination for Oman in 2012 (Oman Astronomical Society), Saudi Arabia in 2013 (Ministry of Education), and Qatar in 2014 (Qatar Univ- ersity), AYVF continues coordinating Bahrain and UAE.
